Daphne has a golden heart (for humans and animals!), full of love, faith and good values. She inspires others by her gained wisdom from books and documentaries, face to face or through her social media pages. She is an amazing writer specialized in health and food supplements and a great (salsa) dancer. She has some great self-care tips, read them below!
What does taking care of yourself mean to you?
Making myself a priority. Allowing and wanting the best for myself in every aspect. Health and happiness go hand in hand; however taking care of your health goes much further than eating smoothie bowls and exercising daily. Are your relationships nourishing your soul? Is your job full-filling? Are you doing things that excite you? Are you happy with who you are? It’s your life and the one thing that counts is that YOU find it worthwhile.
What do you do for yourself when you feel you need more care for yourself?
I try to feel what I need instead of what I want or what others want, and also remind myself I am perfect just the way I am and where I am, and not ‘if’ or ‘after I do this and this’. No conditions. I’ll be extra kind to myself. Quick tools I use are: getting more sleep, tidy up my house, meditating, cuddling, reading, not doing anything I don’t feel like. I used to love being around people as much as possible when I was younger, but I really started appreciating time with myself and my thoughts. Now I take time to process emotions and events. I am sensitive and a pleaser so being around people sometimes exhausts me. I enjoy 1-on-1 talks more. I believe it’s all about quality.
Was there a specific moment when you felt self-care is very important?
Definitely. When I was starting a company while having a full-time job, moving in together with my ex-boyfriend and trying to maintain my friendships, family, social life, working out etc. I started feeling super stressed and overstrung. I realized later I was way too demanding towards myself and felt extremely obligated towards everyone and everything except my own well-being.
What is your TCOYS tip to other people?
Do what you gotta do to make yourself happy and always put YOU first. You owe it to yourself. The thing is when you truly love yourself, you will automatically take care of your self(ie), but most of us don’t know this unconditional (self)love. We know self-rejection and criticism all too well. So we’ll have to practice. If your loved ones are just as important to you as they are to me; then you have got to take care of yourself first so you can give them the best of you. The more you give yourself, the more you are able to give to others.
